Minutes for the City Council meeting May 19, 1969

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, May 19, 1969, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Turner, Dr. Bowers, Young, Darling, Stricklin, Minx, Pardew, Bowers, Williams, Johnson and Knight. Absent: City Attorney.
The following ordinance was on its first reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE AN ALLEY IN BLOCK B OF NISBETTS ADDITION BETWEEN CULBERHOUSE AND OLIVE STREETS.
Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Williams seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. All voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. All voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight then moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All voted aye and the motion carried. The ordinance was given the number 1229.
The following ordinance was placed on its first reading:
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE PASTURING, KEEPING OR MAINTAINING OF HORSES WITHIN 200 FEET OF ANY DWELLING OR RESIDENCE; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Dr. Bowers offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ARKANSAS PLANNING COMMISSION MAKE APPLICATION TO THE FEDERAL PLANNING ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR THE UNDERTAKING OF A PLANNING PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO
Mr. Stricklin moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion, that the resolution be adopted. All aye and the motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1969:11.
It was discussed that before the next school term, that an ordinance be passed to make Fisher Street one-way south during the school term.
The following ordinance was on its third and final reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 15-54 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY PROVIDING SPEED ZON...
