RESOLUTION TO EXEMPT EXISTING STRUCTURES AND BUILDINGS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN NEWLY ANNEXED AREAS FROM ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING AND NATURAL GAS INSPECTIONS AND OTHER CODE RESTRICTIONS

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro finds there is much concern over the retroactive enforcement of the plumbing and gas codes, electrical codes and building codes of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas on the residents and business owners of the proposed area to be annexed in the November 8th, 1988 election; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro does not have an intent to place an undue burden on the citizens of the proposed area to be annexed by retroactive enforcement of plumbing, gas electrical and building codes of the City of Jonesboro; but it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Jonesboro to accept as is that which is existing and that work which is actually in progress at the time of the annexation;

 

BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas accepts as is that which is existing and that work which is in progress at the time of annexation; that all construction, plumbing, gas and electrical work in progress prior to annexation shall be completed within twelve (12) months from the date of annexation or become subject to the applicable codes and ordinance of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas; that all construction, plumbing, gas and electrical work connected after the date of annexation will be subject to the applicable codes and ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 17th day of October, 1988.
