A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE NAMES OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY, POLICE CHIEF, AND FIRE CHIEF WITHIN THE CITY’S CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION PLAN

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, currently has a Director of Public Safety, a Police Chief and a Fire Chief under the City’s Classification and Compensation Plan; and
WHEREAS, Arkansas Code Annotated Section 14-42-110 states that Mayors shall have the power to appoint and remove all department heads; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 3457 amended Ordinance No. 3051 and renamed the title of Director of Public Safety to read Chief of Police; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to amend the name of Director of Public Safety to read Chief of Police, to amend the name Police Chief to read Assistant Chief of Police, and to amend the name Fire Chief to read Assistant Fire Chief within the City’s Classification and Compensation Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, THAT:
The positions of Director of Public Safety, Chief of Police, and Fire Chief are amended to read Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, and Assistant Fire Chief, respectively, within the City’s Classification and Compensation Plan.
