RESOLUTION SHOWING SUPPORT IN SECURING INTERSTATE STATUS FOR US 63 (FUTURE I-555)

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro has throughout the years joined other organizations throughout Northeast Arkansas in supporting much needed highway projects and potential projects; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro wishes, on behalf of our citizens, to officially state our position; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro recognizes the importance of the efficient, safe transportation of people and goods, which creates an environment that facilitates economic development and is in the best interest of the state and nation; and
WHEREAS, our industrial community, as well as those companies we wish to bring to Jonesboro, tell us that the interstate designation of a limited access highway is one of the most important factors in a location decision; and
WHEREAS, commitments were made to Frito-Lay, Great Dane Trailers, Millard Refrigerated Services and Nestle Prepared Foods Company; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jonesboro fully supports the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and its economic development partners in its efforts to secure interstate status for U.S. 63 (Future I-555) and we strongly urge completion.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that this project has our unfailing support.
