ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 1702 TO INCREASE THE SERVICE FEES FOR SPACES AND OPENING AND CLOSING OF SPACES IN CITY CEMETERIES (NOTE: THIS ORDINANCE WAS AMENDED BY ORD-05:244 ON APRIL 5, 2005; ORD-05:231 ON MAY 17, 2005)

BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS
WHEREAS, there presently exists a need to effectively finance the operation of the maintenance of cemeteries by the City of Jonesboro; and
WHEREAS, increased costs of operation and personnel warrant an increase in service fees charged by the City for both spaces and opening and closing of spaces;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
Section 1: Ordinance No.1702 is herewith amended to provide that the price per space in cemeteries operated by the City is increased to $300.00; $75.00 of the $100.00 increase per space to be designated from the sale of each space for perpetual care of the cemetery. The above ordinance is further amended to provide for an increase to $150.00 for opening and closing graves on weekdays and $200.00 on weekends.
Section 2: Due to the need for effective operation and maintenance of the cemeteries operated by the City, an emergency is therefore declared and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
