Minutes for the City Council meeting on March 20, 1961

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, March 20, 1961. There were present: Mayor, City Atty., City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Sammons, Griffin, Smith, Brewer, Snow, Perry, Kenward, Cook, Brickell, Copeland and Ebbert. Absent: Field.
Mr. Brickell offered the following Resolution:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE WIDENING OF THE SOUTH ½ OF THE BLOCK FRONTING THE WEST SIDE OF CHURCH STREET BETWEEN JACKSON AND WASHINGTON
Mr. Perry made the motion, seconded by Mr. Copeland that the Resolution be adopted. Roll was called. Mr. Brewer was absent on the vote of this motion and the following two roll calls also. All other members present voted aye. Motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1961:08.
Mr. Copeland made the motion, seconded by Mr. Smith that the Mayor and Street Committee meet and come up with a recommendation for a street improvement program based on a long range program with the different types of work they plan on doing and the amount of money it will cost for each program. Roll was called. All members present voted aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Ebbert made the motion, seconded by Mr. Kenward that Council accepts the recommendation of the City Planning Commission on rezoning and it be made a matter or record. Roll was called. Mr. Snow passed and all other members present voted aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Brickell offered the following Ordinance and placed it on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 PROVIDING FOR THE CHANGE AND ADDITION OF ZONING AND ZONING DISTRICT BOUNDARIES.
Mr. Ebbert moved with Mr. Sammons seconding the motion that Yield Right of Way signs be placed at the following places: Strawn & Haven; on Strawn going west and on Haven going north. Allen & Miller; on Miller going both directions. Union & Burke; on Union going south. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried.
