RESOLUTION TO RE-NAME THE PARK LOCATED ON EAST HOPE AVENUE TO “STOTTS PARK” IN RECOGNIATION OF MR. ISSAC M. STOTTS

Whereas, the City of Jonesboro Parks and Recreation department has solicited suggestions from the community for consideration in re-naming the city park located at 832 East Hope Avenue, and 

 

Whereas, Mr. Isaac Manoy Stotts, recognized throughout our community as a veteran, a teacher, humanitarian, and community advocate, received numerous nominations from the public, and

 

Whereas, Mr. Stotts was a resident of the area near Hope Avenue Park, growing a community garden, working with neighborhood children, and  helping to keep the area clean, and

 

Whereas, Mr. Stotts encouraged young people in our community to learn more about the world around them so they might take advantage of endless opportunities, and  

 

Whereas, Mr. Stotts served as President of the Jonesboro NAACP for twenty-three years, attending meetings of the City Council and participating in our municipal government.

 

Therefore be it resolved, by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that from this day forward, the city park located at 832 East Hope Avenue will be known as “Stotts Park”, in honor and recognition of Mr. Isaac M. Stotts.

 

PASSED AND APPROVED this 16th day of December, 2002.
