AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO’S 1474, 1475 AND 1476; ORDINANCES DESIGNATING CERTAIN STREETS AS ONE-WAY DURING SCHOOL MONTHS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and approval of this ordinance, the following streets shall be designated as one-way streets during the hours of 7:30 and 8:30 A.M. and from 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. on school days during school months:

 

(a) Fisher Street from Belt Street, south to Hoover;

(b) Rosemond Street from Greenway east to Roy Street; Roy Street from Rosemond, south to Flowerland; Flowerland from Roy Street, west to Greenwood; Greenwood from Flowerland north to Rosemond;

(c) Rains Street along the east side of East School campus, south to Richmond with the southbound traffic; Cobb Street from Richmond north along the west side of the East School campus;

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described streets at the proper places, appropriate signs reading “ONE WAY STREET” and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove, or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 3: Every person convicted to a violation of any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than $100.00.

 

Section 4: All ordinances and/or ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 5: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused or will cause danger to life and property; and that, therefore, this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of September, 1977.
