Minutes for the City Council meeting on February 2, 1970

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, February 2, 1970, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Park, Dr. Bowers, Young, Darling, Stricklin, Minx, Pardew, Bowers, Williams and Knight. Absent: Johnson.
The following ordinance was on the second reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES
Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. All present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight then moved with Mr. Stricklin seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All aye and the motion carried. Motion by Knight, second by Pierce, to adopt the emergency clause passed unanimously. The ordinance was given the number 1257.
The Mayor appointed Mrs. Howard Stuck to the Library Board for a 6-year term. Mr. Darling moved with Mr. Bowers seconding to approve and accept the appointment. All present voted aye and the motion carried.
Mr. Minx moved with Mr. Young seconding the motion that the 1970 budget, as recommended by the Finance Committee, be adopted. All members present voted aye and the motion carried.
The following ordinance was read for the first time:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION I OF ORDINANCE NO. 1019 FIXING THE SALARY OF THE CITY CLERK, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Mr. Williams moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the rule be suspended on the first and second reading and after the ordinance was read for the third and final time the members all voted aye to adopt the ordinance and emergency clause. This ordinance was given the number 1257A.
