AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE STOP SIGNS ON SMOOT DRIVE AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH MUNOS LAND; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: The City Council finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public and pedestrians at certain streets at their intersections and that, stop signs are hereby established and placed at the following intersection:

 

A stop sign on Smoot Drive at its intersection with Munos Lane.

 

Section 2: The driver of all vehicles shall stop at said “Stop Signs” and yield the right-of-way to vehicles traveling upon the other streets before entering thereon or passing across.

 

Section 3: The Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to remove and locate upon the above described streets at the proper places, appropriate signs reading “STOP” and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than $25.00.

 

Section 5: All Ordinances and/or parts of Ordinances in conflict therewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that the increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devises have caused danger to life and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, and emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
