PUBLIC HEARING 6:15 P.M. - A public hearing was conducted regarding the abandonment of Auburndale Drive, Lexington Place, and several easements located in Woodsprings Estates, Phase III as requested by Todd Jackson. No opposition was voiced.

CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - June 21, 1999

The Jonesboro City Council met Monday, June 21, 1999, at 6:30 p.m. A full quorum was in attendance. Present were: Mayor Hubert Brodell, City Attorney, Phillip Crego, City Clerk, Donna K. Jackson, and 9 council members. Those members were: McCall, Young, Crockett, Rorex, Rega, Province, Copeland, Perrin, and Roddy. Councilmen Kelton, Tate and Moore were unable to attend.

Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilman Roddy for approval of the minutes from June 7, 1999, as delivered. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members voting aye were: McCall, Young, Crockett, Rorex, Rega, Province, Copeland, Perrin, and Roddy.

The following ordinance was on third and final reading:

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES (Brenda Rainwater)

Several spoke in opposition to the zoning request, citing traffic problems and overcrowded conditions for such a small area. Council questioned why the opposition had not expressed their concerns earlier to the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission. Ms. Kathy Schimit, spokesperson for the group, responded by saying only recently did they become aware of the zoning request. It was explained that Ms. Rainwater already owned property zoned Residential (R-2) and could put an apartment complex in the location without further rezoning. Ms. Schimit stated they were unaware that some of the property had already been zoned Residential-2. Councilman Young moved seconded by Councilman Roddy for the adoption of the ordinance.
