A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, HERITAGE, AND TOURISM AND THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDS

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro was awarded an Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program grant in the amount of $1,000,000; and
WHEREAS, The City of Jonesboro agrees to provide a local match of $1,129,675; and
WHEREAS, the National Parks Service has awarded funds to the State of Arkansas pursuant to the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965; and
WHEREAS, the State of Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism agrees to provide $1,000,000 in federal funds to land acquisition and development of Disciple Park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro will allocate funds to acquire at least 13 acres of land that will be developed into a park that is comprised of walking/biking trails, an adventure playground, tennis/pickleball courts, dog park, multipurpose recreation fields, benches, restrooms, greenspace, parking lot and an expanded road entrance
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Jonesboro will enter into an agreement with the State of Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism to accept $1,000,000 in federal funding from the United States Department of Interior.
SECTION 2: The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the acceptance and allocation.
SECTION 3: The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to execute all appropriate agreements and contracts necessary to expedite the construction of the above stated project.
