AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ARTICLE 1 OF CHAPTER 8 DESIGNATED ELECTRICAL CODE (NOTE: THIS ORDINANCE WAS AMENDED BY ORD-97:1727 ON OCTOBER 6, 1997)

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

That Article 1 of Chapter 8 shall be amended to read as follows:

Section 1: Section 8-9.1 is hereby amended to read as follows: There is hereby adopted by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas for the purposes of the practical safeguarding of persons and of buildings and their contents from hazards arising from the use of electricity for light, heat, power, radio, signaling and for other purposes that certain electrical code known as the National Electrical Code being particularly the 1981 Edition thereof and the whole thereof, save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, of which not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from the date of which this Section shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling on all electrical equipment, etc., installed and contained within the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Section 2: Section 8-10 of the Code of Ordinance of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas is hereby amended to read as follows: The following rules to govern local condition shall e exceptions to the National Electrical Code:

1: All buildings in the fire district and all commercial buildings shall be wired in metal conduit. Chapter 24 defines the fire district.
2: No circuit shall be wired with less than No.12 copper wire.
3: Minimum size of aluminum wire that can be used in No.6 stranded.
4: PVC conduit shall not be installed where it is exposed to the outside elements. It can be used in underground installations as approved by the National Electrical Code.
