Minutes for the City Council meeting on August 4, 1969

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark. met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, August 4, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Turner, Dr. Bowers, Young, Darling, Stricklin, Minx, Pardew, Bowers, Williams, Johnson and Knight.
Rev. George Beasley gave the opening prayer.
The following ordinance was on the third and final reading:
AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CERTAIN LANDS ANNEXED TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS, BY ORDER OF THE COUNTY COURT DATED JUNE 11, 1969; ASSIGNING SAID ANNEXED TERRITORY TO WARD 1; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All members voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight then moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion that the Emergency Clause be adopted. All aye and the motion carried. The ordinance was given the number 1237.
Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Turner seconding the motion that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. All members voted aye and the motion carried.
The Finance Committee was asked to make a study for increased revenues for the coming year, in order to bring the strength of the Police and Fire Departments up-to-date, said committee to meet with the Citizens Committee.
There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
