MARCH 13, 1980

The Metropolitan Area Planning commission met Thursday, March 13, 1980 at 7:30 P.M. in the courtroom at City Hall.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. Ralph Morrison, Chairman.

Members Present: Morrison, cooper, Ball, Gott, Freeman and Brown.

Others Present: Carlos Wood, Mike Cameron, John Broadaway, Brenda Barnes and Curt Hodges. Numerous guests were in the audience.

Minutes for March were read and approved. Items for business were as follows:

Item #1 Lois Hancock requests a rezoning from Residential One (R-1) to Residential Two (R-2) the following described properties. The north 3/5 of the north ½ of the NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 25 Township 14 North Range 3 East, and Lot 19 and a part of Lot 8 Block A of Edgewood Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, containing in the aggregate 3.1 acres, more or less. That part of Lot 8 in Block A of Edgewood Addition is described as all of that part of Lot 8 in Block A of Edgewood Addition lying south of the north line of the NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 25, Township 14 North, Range 3 East. The General location of this property is between Culberhouse Street and Edgewood Street, north of Parkview Street.

The attorney for Mrs. Hancock stated that the reason for the rezoning of this property was to construct multi-family dwellings. There was opposition to this request by the surrounding property owners. Their reasons for opposition were all the surrounding areas are zoned R-1: this type construction would lower the value of surrounding property.

A motion was made by Mr. Freeman and seconded by Mr. Gott to deny this request. REQUEST DENIED UNANIMOUSLY. Reason for the Planning Commission denying this request was that the Commission felt that rezoning would not be compatible for the neighborhood.
