AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON PORTIONS OF STRAWN AVENUE AND COBB STREET; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas;

 

Section 1: From and after the passage and adoption of this ordinance no person, firm or corporation shall park, stop of leave standing any vehicle of any kind whatsoever.

 

a.                     On the North side of Strawn Avenue between Flint Street and Culberhouse Street;

b.                     On both the East and West sides of Cobb Street between Matthews Avenue and Oak Avenue.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs reading “No Parking” at appropriate places along the foregoing streets and avenues, and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate said signs.

 

Section 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed Fifteen ($15.00) Dollars with each day a violation continues to be a separate offense.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that the parking of vehicles at the places described above, due to the narrowness of streets, has resulted in traffic hazards and resulting injury to persons or property and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of public peace and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of January, 1962.
