AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 1467 PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES: TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF: AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: The City Council finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such to endanger the traveling public and pedestrians at a certain street and intersection and that certain traffic control devices are established and places at the following intersection:

 

A.                     A red light at the intersection of Church & Nettleton.

 

Section 2: The drivers of all vehicles shall obey all traffic control signals per instruction upon the face thereof.

 

Section 3: the Chief of Police or some other person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described street at the proper place, appropriate signs designation traffic control as set out above and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down remove, or mutilate such signs or violate the instructions on the face of said signs.

 

Section 4: Every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not more than twenty five ($25.00) dollars.

 

Section 5:  All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 6: It is found and declared by the City Council that increasing traffic congestion and lack of traffic control devices have caused or will cause danger to life and property and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and adoption.
