Minutes for the City Council meeting on October 24, 1960

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session at City Hall, Monday night, October 24, 1960, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Parks, Williams, Sammons, Smith, Brickell, Heern, Snow, Kenward, Field, Griffin, Copeland and Ebbert.
Mr. Sammons offered the following ordinance and placed it on the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO VACATE AND ABANDON GUY STREET IN THE CITY OF JONESBORO
Mr. Copeland made the motion seconded by Mr. Sammons that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Ebbert made the motion seconded by Mr. Williams that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Mr. Field then moved with Mr. Ebbert that the ordinance be adopted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. Roll was called on the emergency clause and all voted aye. The ordinance was given the number 1018.
A petition was filed and read to the Council protesting the ditches in Drainage District No. 33 not being taken care of and urging Council to offer the property owners relief in this mater. After discussion, Mr. Copeland offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION REQUESTING DRAINAGE DISTRICT NOS. 30 AND 33 MEET WITH THE CITY COUNCIL
Mr. Copeland made the motion seconded by Mr. Ebbert that the resolution be adopted. Roll was called. All aye. Motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1960:14.
The bids on a new fire truck chassis were opened and read. Mr. Ebbert made the motion seconded by Mr. Brickell that the low bid from Patton Motor Co. For $2,344.00 be accepted. Roll was called. Mr. Sammons voted no and all other members voted aye. Motion carried.
Mr. Field made the motion seconded by Mr. Kenward that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Ro...
