AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 2-24.6 (b) WHICH PROVIDES QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT OF FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas; to-wit:

 

Section 1: That Section 2-24.6 (b) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas is hereby amended as follows:

 

Upon acceptance of the applicant for employment as a fireman or policeman with the City of Jonesboro, it shall be a requirement of his employment to reside within the metropolitan area (as defined by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission) during his period of employment. East applicant shall state his residence address in his application. The Chief of the respective department shall verify whether said applicant meets the residence requirement set forth herein.

 

Section 2: All ordinances and/or parts of ordinance in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

 

Section 3: Should any portion of this ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction then the remainder of this ordinance should not be affected by such partial invalidity.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that the ordinance being necessary for the efficient operation of the police and fire department of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that therefore, the ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance should take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 20th day of October, 1975.
