A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF JONESBORO’S APPLICATION FOR THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas has met with Valley View Public Schools, Nettleton Public Schools and Jonesboro Public Schools seeking a collaboration to improve routes to school for Jonesboro children;

 

WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to School grant is a 100% grant administered by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department and will require no match from the City of Jonesboro;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, is seeking to construct a greenway along Turtle Creek which shall improve routes to Nettleton Intermediate Center and Nettleton Central Elementary School;

 

WHEREAS, it is the hope of the City of Jonesboro that the greenway project shall be the first in a series projects to improve safe routes to schools in all three districts.

 

WHEREAS, in order to obtain the funds necessary to develop the greenway, it is necessary to pass a resolution approving application to the Safe Routes to School Grant;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:

 

SECTION 1: That the Mayor, Doug Formon and the City Clerk, Donna Jackson are hereby authorized to make application to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department for assistance to develop the Turtle Creek Greenway as a safe route to school; therefore such application shall be submitted as expediently as possible.
