AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE TRAFFIC OF TRUCKS IN WEIGHT OF TWO TONS OR MORE ON PORTIONS OF WOOD STREET AND CULBERHOUSE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, no person, firm or corporation shall allow any truck in size and weight of two tons or more to enter upon Culberhouse Street from Highway 39 North to the junction of Culberhouse and Wood Street after December 1, 1969; and Wood Street from Highway 39 North to the junction of Wood Street and Culberhouse immediately, except delivery trucks in excess of two tons will be permitted.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate upon the above described parts of streets appropriate signs and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed $15.00 for each offense.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that due to the great congestion of traffic on the above named streets that the travel of heavy trucks over this area creates and causes a traffic problem and hazard resulting in injuries to persons and property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.
