RESOLUTION FOR TRADE OF PROPERTY WITH GULF OIL CORPORATION FOR THE WIDENING OF MADISON AVENUE

WHEREAS, traffic demands require the eventual widening of Madison Avenue, and the need therefore constantly increases due to the necessity of providing a better passageway to the City Hall and Fire Department and for ingress and egress to the Central business District and,
WHEREAS, in order to get the necessary footage for the widening of Madison Avenue it is necessary that the City acquire the East 23 feet of Lot 19 of Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, which is owned by Golf Oil Corporation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro owns Lots 1, 2 and 18 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, as recorded in plat book 48 at page 220, Craighead County, Arkansas, which is used for parking lot and other purposes, and sufficient additional space for the Gulf Oil Company Service Station which is material to its operation will be available to it if 35 feet of the City’s property would be conveyed to Gulf Oil Corporation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council find it to be the best interest of the City and to the benefit of the City and the Citizens of Jonesboro to trade a part of Lots 1, 2 and 18 of Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, and described as:
Beginning at the point five feet north of the Southwest Corner of Lot 19 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, said point being a point in the North right-of-way line of Washington Avenue and running thence west along the South line of Lot 18 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro for a distance of 10 feet; thence north 130 feet; thence east 75.83 feet; thence south 0° 6’ east 25 feet to a point in the north line of Lot 19 of the aforesaid Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas; thence west along the aforesaid north line of Lot 19, 65.87 feet to the northeast corner of the aforesaid lot 19; thence South 105 feet to the point of beginning, being a part of Lots 1, 2 and 18 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, as recorded in Plat book 48 at page 220, Craighead County, Arkansas, in Jonesboro, Arkansas; for a Warranty Deed from Gulf Oil Corporation to:
Beginning at the Southeast corner of Lot 19 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas and running thence west along the south property line of the aforesaid Lot 19, 23.93 feet; thence north 0° 6’ west 110 feet; to a point in the south line of Lot 1 of the aforesaid Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro; thence east along the south line of the aforesaid Lot 1, 24.13 feet to the Northeast corner of the aforesaid Lot 19, said point being located in the west right-of-way line of Madison Street; thence south along the west right-of-way line of the aforesaid Madison Street, 110 feet to the point of beginning; being the west 23 feet of Lot 19 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, and
Beginning at the Southwest corner of Lot 19 of the Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, said point being a point in the north right-of-way line of Washington Avenue and running thence east along the said north right-of-way line of Washington Avenue 66.07feet; thence North 0°6’ west 5 feet; thence west 66.07 feet to appoint in the west line of the aforesaid Lot 19; thence south 5 feet to the point of beginning; being a 5 foot strip off the south end of aforesaid Lot 19 of Flossie Ritter Addition to Jonesboro, Arkansas, and
The Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized and directed to execute a deed to Gulf Oil Corporation and to receive from Gulf Oil Corporation, on behalf of the City, a Warranty Deed, both deeds as described above.
