The City Council of the City of Jonesboro met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, November 6, 1972, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Park, Dr. Bowers, Williams, Darling, Stricklin, Minx, Smith, Bowers, Harris, Johnson and Knight.

 

Mr. Darling moved with Mr. Minx seconding the motion that Kits be allowed an additional $200.00 per year. All voted aye and the motion carried.

 

Mr. Darling offered the following ordinance for its 1st reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE USE OF PUBLIC SEWERS AND DRAINS; AND THE DISCHARGE OF WATERS AND WASTES INTO THE PUBLIC SEWER SYSTEM; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Darling moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the 2nd reading. All aye and the motion carried. Mr. Darling moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. All voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Darling then moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All aye and motion carried. Motion by Darling, second by Bowers to adopt the emergency clause passed unanimously. The ordinance was given the number 1346.

 

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Bower seconding the motion that all of the records pertaining to the Calvert Trailer Camp be gathered together and presented at the next Council meeting in order for the Council to study and take action. All voted aye and the motion carried.

 

The ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance was on third and final reading.

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES FROM R-2 TO I-1 LOCATED WEST OF CULBERHOUSE STREET AND SOUTH OF BURKE STREET

 

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All voted aye and the motion carried. Motion by Knight, second by Park to adopt the emergency clause passed unanimously. The ordinance was given the number 1347.

 

Mr. Smith moved with Dr. Bowers seconding the motion that the CME Church be granted permission to solicit funds from Nov. 7 to Dec. 2. All aye and the motion carried.

 

The Mayor requested that the Parking Committee of the Council study a plan for the hospital parking lot as suggested by the hospital and make recommendation back to Council.

 

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the bills as okayed by the finance committee be paid. All voted aye and the motion carried.

 

Dr. Bowers moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion that the streets recommended at the last meeting and had been tabled up until this meeting be okayed. All voted aye and the motion carried.

 

After the bids were opened on a dump body on a truck chassis and bed, Mr. Smith moved with Mr. Stricklin seconding the motion that the bid of $12,182.98 from Town and Country International be accepted. All voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Bowers seconding the motion that the bid of $1,428.00 from Mike Wiley Co. be accepted for the bed. All voted aye and the motion carried.

 

There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
