PRESS CONFERENCE

A press conference was held at 7:00 p.m. For the purpose of certifying petitions regarding Ordinance No. 2381, traffic proposal. The City Clerk declared the petitions to be sufficient according to Amendment 7 of the Arkansas Constitution.

 

City Council Minutes - June 1, 1992

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Present were the Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and all the Aldermen with the exception of Mr. Stricklin who was away on official business.

 

The minutes of May 18, 1992, were approved as mailed by motion of Mr. Hannah, seconded by Mr. Mays. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Bridger offered the following ordinance for the first reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 11.20.07, REINSPECTIONS; NOTICE TO PUT IN SAFE CONDITION; EXISTING BUILDINGS, SUBSECTION (b) OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS TO SPECIFY A TIME LIMIT FOR REQUIRING AN ELECTRICAL REINSPECTION OF A COMMERCIAL OR INDUSTRIAL BUILDING; OTHER PURPOSES.

 

The decision was made to leave the ordinance on the first reading.

 

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton to set a public hearing for 7:15 p.m. on June 15, 1992 regarding the adoption of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of industrial development revenue bonds for Hytrol. All voted aye.

 

Under new business, Mayor Brodell asked City Clerk, Donna K. Jackson to give a report regarding the referendum petition of Ordinance 2381, adopting a traffic plan for Jonesboro. Mrs. Jackson stated a press conference was held, and the petition had been certified and found to be sufficient according to Amendment 7 of the Constitution of the State of Arkansas. The petition was notarized and presented to the Council.

 

Mr. Hannah read a letter in which Police Reserve Officers, Rick Foreman and Tony Parnell were commended. Alderman Hannah urged the Council to let these officers know how much their efforts are appreciated.

 

Dr. Strauser questioned the legalities for having ordinances on the agenda, stating it was his understanding that the deadline was Thursday prior to a Council Meeting. Pam Honeycutt, stated she was not aware of the law which pertained to this matter, but it had been the rule in the past.

 

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
