AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON CERTAIN STREETS AND PORTIONS OF CERTAIN STREETS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

Section 1: From and after passage and adoption of this Ordinance, no person, firm or corporation shall park, stop or leave standing any vehicle of any kind whatsoever on the following streets or portions of streets as follows:

 

(a)                     No Parking on Patrick Street from East Matthews Avenue east to Creath Avenue;

(b)                     No Parking on the North side of Huntington Avenue from Madison Street West to the first alley which runs North and South West from Madison Street on Huntington Avenue;

(c)                     No Parking on the South side of Huntington Avenue from Madison Street West 50 feet;

(d)                     No Parking on the West side of Carson Street 100 feet North of the south drive way of St. Bernard’s Hospital and no parking on the West side of Carson Street 150 feet South of Jackson Street;

(e)                     No Parking on the South side of Monroe Street from Flint Street West to Nesbitt Street.

(f)                     No Parking on the South side of Warner Street from Madison Street West to Chestnut Street.

 

Section 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs reading “NO PARKING” at appropriate places along the foregoing streets as set forth in this Ordinance and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to tear down, remove, or mutilate such signs.

 

Section 3: Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined in any sum not to exceed $15.00, with each day a violation continues to be a separate offense.

 

Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council that due to the greatly increased traffic in the vicinity Andover the above named streets, the parking of vehicles on said street and in the locations above mentioned creates a traffic hazard and resulting injury to persons or property and this Ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and approval.

 

PASSED and                      ADOPTED this 1ST day of May, 1967.
