RESOLUTION TO EXECUTE A QUITCLAIM DEED FOR PROPERTY LOCATED ON LOTS 5-8 OF GLADYS RANKIN’S SUBDIVISION OF COBB’S SURVEY FOR THE WIDENING OF MONROE AVENUE

WHEREAS, traffic demands require the eventual widening of Monroe Avenue between Church Street and East, and the need therefore constantly increases due to the necessity of providing a better passageway to the Post Office and to the City Water and Light Plant offices and for ingress and egress to the Central Business District, and 12.4 feet off the South side of Lots 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Gladys Rankin’s Subdivision of a part of Cobb’s Survey of the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 18, Township 14 North, Range 4 East: and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Jonesboro owns Lot 3 and that part of Lot 6 of said Cobb’s Survey which is used for a parking lot, and sufficient parking or materially the same amount of parking will be available if 12.4 feet next to and joining Lot 4 of Gladys Rankin’s Subdivision is abandoned to parking because of the only result will be a less wide passageway within the parking lot.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council finds it to be to the benefit of the City and the citizens of Jonesboro to trade a part of the parking space owned by the City and described as:

 

Beginning at the Northwest corner of Gladys Rankin’s Subdivision of Cobb’s Survey of the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 18, Township 14 North, Range 4 East, thence North 12.4 feet, thence East to the West line of East street as the same may be established, thence South to the North line of said Lot 4, thence West to the place of beginning;

 

For a Quitclaim Deed from Gladys Rankin to:

 

The South 12.4 feet of Lots 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Gladys Rankin’s Subdivision of Cobb’s Survey of the Northwest Quarter of Section 18, Township 14 North, Range 4 East, and the East 8.6 feet of Lots 4 and 8 of said Gladys Rankin’s Subdivision;

 

And the Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized and directed to execute deed to Gladys Rankin and to receive from Gladys Rankin, on behalf of the City, a Dedication Deed both deeds as described above.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED this 12th day of July, 1965.
