CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - AUGUST 17, 1992

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Present were the Mayor, City Clerk, and all the Aldermen except for Pete Shelton who was unable to attend.

 

The minutes of the August 3, 1992, were read and approved as mailed by motion of Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Mays. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Nix offered the following ordinance for the first reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES.

 

Mr. Nix moved seconded by Mr. Hannah to suspend the rules and place on second reading. All voted aye. Mr. Mays moved seconded by Mr. Evans to further suspend the rules and place on third and final reading. All voted aye. Mr. Mays moved seconded by Mr. Evans for the adoption of the ordinance was given the number 2414.

 

Mr. Hinson offered the following ordinance for the first reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES.

 

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Hinson to suspend the rules and place on the second reading. All voted aye. The ordinance was read and held there till the next Council meeting.

 

The following bids were up for review:

 

92:01 - Public Sale

Purchasing Agent, Steve Kent, made the recommendation to pull items 11 and 17 and to hang on to items 40 from the public sale and to sell everything “as is”. Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Strauser to accept the Purchasing Agent’s recommendation. All voted aye.

 

93:35 - Tire Retread - Street Department

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin to accept the lowest bid which met specifications. All voted aye.

 

93:36 -Air Packs -Fire Department

Mr. Bridger moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin to accept the lowest bid which met specifications. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Bridger moved, seconded by Mr. Evans to set the next Council Meeting for September 8, 1992 because of Labor Day Holiday, and to set a Public Hearing for 7:15 p.m. regarding the establishment of a Taxi-Cab service for Jonesboro. All voted aye.

 

Under new business, Mayor Brodell congratulated Alderman Grover Evans on being selected as a swimming athlete on the U.S. 1992 Paralympics Wheelchair Sport Team. Everyone wished Grover good luck!

 

Mr. Stricklin requested all the Aldermen to read a letter from Parks and Recreation on all the work they are doing.

 

Mr. Evans complimented Doug Little on his job performance.

 

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
