IV. NEW BUSINESS
Wyatt informed the Board that Dr. Farris has a conflict with the meeting time and his teaching schedule this semester. Wyatt explained the attendance policy. The Board could vote to grant Dr. Farris a leave of absence for the remainder of the semester (the semester ends in May). Coleman made a motion to grant Dr. Farris a leave of absence from the Board meetings, Byrant seconded the motion. All voted aye.
V. OLD BUSINESS
Light stated the if the Board agrees with the BLE ordinance a vote is needed to move to City Council. The ordinance includes studies of FEMA Zone A and Zone X. It identifies other flood prone areas in Jonesboro. The studies map smaller channels. The ordinance will give the City guidance and the authority to use the mapping as the best available data. A motion was made to forward the BLE ordinance to the City Council by Coleman. Seconded by Bryant. All vote Aye.
VI. OTHER COMMUNICATIONS
Light gave an update on the Flood Mitigation Grant. The City has not torn down the last house on Deerwood. The property located on Nettleton will be transferred to City Water & Light once final clean-up is completed. The initial application and the full application have been submitted for the 2019 Flood Mitigation Grant. If approved, four additional repetitive loss structures will be torn down. Wyatt suggested having another bus tour of areas affected by flooding. The Engineering Department will come up with a route and check the Mayor to schedule.Light stated he is trying to schedule a meeting with the Corps of Engineers and the new Colonel. There are problems with the Little Bay Ditch in the Industrial Park area backing up from Poinsett County. Light hopes to have the meeting in March before the Mayor’s trip to Washington D.C.
