AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE PARKING OF VEHICLES WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO; DECLARING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: All night parking of motor trucks. No person, firm or corporation shall park any motor truck, trailer of semi-trailer which is rated regularly and commonly as having a load capacity of ¾ ton or more upon any street or alley within the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro from the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m., of any day, and no such vehicle shall be parked upon the street right-of-way, and shall be parked wholly upon private property.

 

SECTION 2: No person, firm or corporation shall park a vehicle of any kind or character upon Main Street from the railroad tracts south to Jefferson Avenue, upon either side of said street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

 

SECTION 3: No person, firm or corporation shall park a vehicle upon either side of Matthews Avenue from Main Street to Carson Street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

 

SECTION 4: Commercial vehicles, vehicles for sale and peddling therefrom. It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle of any kind or character upon any street or street right-of-way within the City of Jonesboro or upon any city owned parking lot for the purpose of displaying said vehicle for sale, or for rent or hire, or to park any vehicle upon any street, street right-of-way or public parking lot within the City of Jonesboro for a period of longer than five minutes form which vehicle merchandise goods, wares, produce or other matter is peddled.

 

SECTION 5: Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $25.00 and each day said violation is allowed to remain shall constitute a separate offense.

 

SECTION 6: Emergency: It being found that the overnight parking of motor trucks upon the streets and street right-of-ways of said city constitutes a traffic hazard endangering the traveling public, and that the parking of vehicles for sale and for commercial purposes or for peddling therefore constitutes a traffic hazard; and emergency is hereby declared, and it being necessary for the immediate protection of the public health and welfare, this ordinance shall be in force and effect immediately upon and after its passage and adoption.
