CITY COUNCIL MINUTES OCTOBER 15, 1979

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, October 15, 1979, at 7:30 p.m. Present were, Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all duly elected aldermen.

 

Mr. Stricklin moved that the minutes of October 1, be approved as mailed, seconded by Mr. Park. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Hannah offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Stricklin moved that the ordinance be amended by adding (b) “No Parking” on Mallory Court from Madison, west to Haven from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on school days only, Motion seconded by Mr. Shelton. All council voted aye.

 

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 13-37 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS: THE SAME DEALING WITH THE REGULATION OF PAWNBROKERS

 

Mr. Bobby McDaniel, representing Don Coleman, voiced his opposition to the ordinance.

 

Mr. Park offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

 

Mr. Hannah moved that permission be denied for placing a mobile home at 1007 Cartwright. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shelton. Voting aye: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, and Mays. Mr. Haggenmacher passed.

 

Permission was granted for placing a mobile home at 200 Nesbitt on motion by Mr. Park seconded by Mr. Hinson. The only dissenting vote, was cast by, Mr. Minx.

 

Mr. Hannah moved that thirty days (30) be granted for moving the mobile home from the lot at 1007 Cartwright. Motion seconded by Mr. Minx. Voting aye: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Stricklin, Province and Mays. Voting nay: Shelton and Haigler. Mr. Haggenmacher passed.

 

Mr. Hinson moved that permission be granted for placing a mobile home at 200 Word, seconded by Mr. Park with the only dissenting vote cast by Mr. Minx.

 

The following bids were received for police uniforms:

 

Farrior’s                     $2,446.95

Anderson’s                     2,426.05

R&R Uniforms                     No bid

 

Mr. Stricklin moved that the bid from Anderson’s be approved, seconded by Mr. Park. All voted aye.

 

The following bids were received for fire uniforms:

Farrior’s                     $2,370.99

Anderson’s                     2,475.25

R&R Uniforms                     No bid

 

Ms. Haigler moved that the bid from Farrior’s be approved, seconded by Mr. Hannah. Voting aye: Park, Hinson, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Mays and Haggenmacher. Voting nay: Sanderson and Shelton. Motion carries.

 

The following bids were received for anti-freeze:

Jonesboro Auto Parts                     $1,531.20

A & G Auto Parts                     1,430.00

Otasco                     1,526.80

Southern Mkt Aff.                     1,447.60

 

On motion by Mr. Park, seconded by Mr. Mays and unanimous vote of council, the bid from A & G was approved.

 

The following bids were received for pickup for Parks Department:

Aycock Pontiac                     6,359.94

O’Neal Ford                     5,988.00

Comer Chevrolet                     5,935.31

 

Mr. Hannah moved that the bid from Comer Chevrolet be approved, seconded by Ms. Haigler. Voting aye: Park, Bridger, Minx, Hannah, Haigler, Stricklin, Province, Mays and Haggenmacher. Voting nay: Sanderson, Hinson and Shelton. Motion carried.

 

Announcement was made concerning Operation Clean Sweep to be held October 29 through November 10.

 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
