AN ORDINANCE TO PREVENT AND PROHIBIT PARKING ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF BRIDGE, MONROE AND FLINT STREETS WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO; PROVIDING PENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Be it Ordained and Enacted by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1. That it shall be and is hereby declared to be unlawful to park a motor vehicle or any other vehicle of any kind or character whatever upon those certain portions of the following streets and avenues more particularly described as follows:

 

a.                     Upon both the East and West sides of Bridge Street from the intersection of Bridge Street and Cate Avenue to the intersection of Bridge Street with Washington Avenue;

b.                     Upon both the North and South sides of Monroe Avenue from the intersection of Monroe Avenue and South Church Street to the intersection of East Monroe Avenue with East Street;

c.                     Upon both the East and the West sides of Flint Street from the intersection of Flint Street with Oak Avenue to the intersection of Flint Street with Burke Avenue.

 

EXCEPT that it shall be lawful to park any vehicle in any portion of above described streets or avenues where the curb has been cut in to provide a parking area off of said street; so that no portion of any vehicle so parked shall extend out into or beyond the curb line of above described streets.

 

SECTION 2. The Chief of Police or some person designated by him, shall place and located signs upon which shall be written “NO PARKING” at the above described places and it shall be unlawful for any person to tear down or remove said signs or mutilate same without authority from the Chief of Police and by him only when acting under authority granted by the City Council.

 

SECTION 3. Violations of this ordinance shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed fifteen dollars for each offense.

 

SECTION 4. It being found that the traffic situation at the above locations is congested and dangerous; this ordinance is necessary for immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and the same shall be in full force and effect immediately after its passage.
