Minutes for the City Council meeting on June 17, 1968

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in regular session in City Hall, Monday night, June 17, 1968, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Vice Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Turner, Bennett, Ledbetter, Stricklin, Minx, Pardew, Copeland, Young, Johnson and Knight. Absent: Mayor.

 

Vice Mayor Darling presided over the meeting as Mayor Stallings was out of town.

 

The following ordinance was on the third and final reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR FIRE LIMITS AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION, REMOVAL, DEMOLITION, EQUIPMENT, USE AND OCCUPANCY, LOCATION AND MAINTENANCE OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES

 

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Stricklin seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All members present voted aye and the motion carried. The ordinance was given the number 1204.

 

The following ordinance was on the third and final reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING MINIMUM STANDARDS GOVERNING THE USE, OCCUPANCY AND MAINTENANCE OF DWELLING, DWELLING UNITS AND ACCESSORY STRUCTURES; ESTABLISHING MINIMUM STANDARDS GOVERNING SUPPLIED UTILITIES AND FACILITIES, AND OTHER PHYSICAL THINGS AND CONDITIONS ESSENTIAL TO MAKE DWELLINGS SAFE, SANITARY, AND FIT FOR HUMAN HABITATION; ESTABLISHING MINIMUM STANDARDS GOVERNING THE CONDITION AND MAINTENANCE OF DWELLINGS AND ACCESSORY STRUCTURES; FIXING CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF OWNERS AND OCCUPANTS OF DWELLINGS; CREATING A BOARD OF HOUSING CODE APPEALS AND FIXING THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES THEREOF; AUTHORIZING THE INSPECTION OF DWELLINGS AND ACCESSORY STRUCTURES AND PROVIDING FOR THE CONDEMNATION OF ALL BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES DEEMED UNFIT FOR HUMAN HABITATION AND USE; AND FIXING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS

 

Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Stricklin seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All members voted aye and the motion was carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the emergency clause be adopted. All voted aye and the motion was carried. The ordinance was given the number 1205.

 

Mr. Pierce offered the following resolution:

 

RESOLUTION TO PROCEED WITH CONDEMNATION ACTION ON PROPERTY LOCATED AT 403 WEST FORREST STREET

 

Mr. Pierce moved with Mr. Knight seconding the motion that the resolution be adopted. All present voted aye and the motion carried. The resolution was given the number 1968:16.

 

The following ordinance was read for the first time:

 

AN ORDINANCE PERMITTING PARKING ON THE EAST SIDE OF CARSON STREET FROM MONROE AVENUE NORTH TO CREATH AVENUE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Young moved with Mr. Copeland seconding the motion that the checking accounts in the Parking Meter fund, Contingency fund and Hospital Lot fund be put in saving certificates. All present voted aye and the motion was carried.

 

Mr. Minx moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. All aye and the motion carried.


No further business, Council adjourned.
