RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF STATE PLANNING AND RESEARCH FUNDS FROM THE ARKANSAS STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT; AND APPROPRIATING MATCHING FUNDS NECESSARY TO THE PROCUREMENT THEREOF

WHEREAS, as a result of the 2000 Census, the U. S. Census Bureau, on May 1, 2002, designated the City of Jonesboro and its densely populated environs, as an Urbanized Area (UZA); and
WHEREAS, with said designation, certain U. S. Department of Transportation statutory planning and programming requirements become effective; and
WHEREAS, said requirements include the establishment of a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuing planning process, in cooperation with the State of Arkansas; and the preparation and maintenance of an area-wide, multi-modal transportation plan; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to assist Jonesboro in carrying out activities preparatory to process establishment and plan preparation, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has offered the City of Jonesboro certain federal financial assistance, subject to Jonesboro providing the required matching share.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JONESBORO, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Jonesboro hereby accepts the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department’s offer of $40,000 in federal (State Planning & Research) funds to assist in carrying out activities preparatory to the establishment of the statutorily required transportation planning process.
SECTION 2. That the City hereby agrees to provide a matching share in the amount of $10,000; and further agrees to the terms and conditions of the grant, as set out by the Department in the Letter of Agreement attached hereto and made a part hereof, the execution of which by the Mayor is hereby authorized.
SECTION 3. There is hereby appropriated $10,000 from the Street Department Budget to provide the City of Jonesboro’s matching share.
