CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, NOVEMBER 21, 1983

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, November 21, 1983, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all Aldermen except Mr. Nix.

 

The minutes of November 7, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Shelton, seconded by Mr. Hinson. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton to place a mobile home at 2208 Willow Rd. All voted aye.

 

Christine Stevens who represents a group of concerned citizens on nuclear materials asked the council if they had any knowledge of trains that have passed through Jonesboro or of ones that will pass in the future. Mayor Stallings stated that he had not been contacted nor feels that he will be contacted on such an issue.

 

An ordinance that was to be on 3rd reading concerning an annex of property in Curtview Acres was withdrawn from the agenda.

 

Mr. Hinson moved, seconded by Dr. Smith, to approve the Mayor to write a letter stating that the Jonesboro Softball Assoc. could use all improvements on the new parks as collateral to borrow money to purchase lights. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton, to approve Herbert Sanderson to replace Jim Hanna’s position on the Facilities Board. All voted aye.

 

After learning that O’Neal Ford could not deliver the Dump Truck as asked at the November 7th meeting, Mr. Sanderson moved, seconded by Mr. Mays, to accept new bids. All voted aye except Mr. Stricklin, Mr. Hinson, Mr. Hinson, Mr. Shelton, Mr. Bridger, and Mr. Blevins. Motion passed by a 6-5 vote.

 

Mr. Park moved, seconded by Mr. Hannah, to accept the low bid that meets specs on the Backhoe-Loader. The bid was given to J. A. Riggs Company who bid with a J. C. B. 3C1550 for $32,250.00. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Province asked the Council if they or City Water & Light had been contacted about problems from the proposed expansion of a landfill north of town. He explained that he was concerned that the landfill is located above the City’s water supply and that City Water & Light should investigate to see if any problems will arise in the future.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
