The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in regular session on May 14, 1958, at 7:30 P.M., in the Engineering Office of City Water and Light Plant.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Planning Commissioners Dean Ellis, C.D. Frierson, Mrs. Clifford Hill, Minor Markle, Elmer Stuck, Caleb Watson, and Neal Thayer.
OTHERS PRESENT: Don Gilbert.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Planning Commissioners Al Hendrix and Lloyd Rebsamen.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Chairman read a letter from Tom W. Burress requesting a reclassification of an existing R-2 area, east of Bridge Street and north of the center line of Cate Avenue to I-1 area-industrial. The letter is made apart of these minutes.
After discussion, moved by C.D. Frierson, seconded by Minor Markle, and carried, that the request be noted, the letter placed on file and the request be brought up for discussion and consideration when, under the existing ordinance, amendments to the Zoning Map may be considered.
Chairman discussed a problem existing, wherein the small Zoning Map is difficult to read in some instances. He suggested that the boundaries of the various zoning districts be placed on a map of a larger scale.
A plot of Cooksey’s Addition was presented by Don Gilbert for consideration of final approval. Moved by Minor Markel, seconded by Caleb Watson, and carried, that the revised plans, deed for dedication and street grades and profiles, as presented, be given final approval on Cooksey’s Subdivision, which has received preliminary approval on March 13, 1958.
Don Gilbert presented a preliminary plan of a subdivision to be known as Wood Brothers Addition. After discussion, moved by Minor Markle, seconded by Caleb Watson, and carried that preliminary approval be given to this subdivision, with a variance granted on a street to be known as Donna Circle from a 60 foot right of way to a 50 foot right of way, since Donna Circle was in close proximity to a 60 foot street proposed to be platted, and subject to Don Gilbert presenting the required number of plot maps, grades, and profiles of streets and deed and dedication documents when final approval is requested.
Chairman presented a replat of Senter & Company Addition for consideration of final approval. Moved by C.D. Frierson, seconded by Dean Ellis, and carried, that this replat be given final approval, with a variance from a 60 foot right of way to a 50 foot right of way on the northerly edge of the subdivision, it being understood that the adjoining property would be required to dedicate sufficient land to bring the street up to full 60 foot width, as required by ordinance.
Chairman Stuck stated that, since he had held office for a period of twelve months and, under the bylaws of the Planning Commission, no chairman could succeed himself, election of officers was in order. By acclamation, the following officers were elected;
Minor Markle- Chairman
Caleb Watson- Vice-Chairman
Neal B. Thayer- Secretary
There being no further business, meeting adjourned.
