Minutes for the special called City Council meeting on April 4, 1968

The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Ark., met in special session in City Hall, Thursday night, April 4, 1968, at 7:30 p.m. There were present: Mayor, City Attorney and the following named Councilmen: Pierce, Turner, Bennett, Ledbetter, Darling, Stricklin, Pardew, Copeland, Young, Johnson and Knight. Absent: City Clerk and Minx.
Mr. Knight offered the following resolution for the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO VOTE UPON THE QUESTION O ISSUING BONDS UNDER AMENDMENT NO. 13 TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FINANCING THE COSTS TO THE CITY OF CONSTRUCTING AND EQUIPPING THE IMPROVEMENTS DESCRIBED IN THE ORDINANCE; PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its second reading. On calling the roll, all members present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called and all members present voted aye. Motion carried. Mr. Knight then moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All members present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the emergency clause be adopted. All present voted aye and the motion was carried. The ordinance was given the number 1198.
Mr. Knight offered the following ordinance for the first reading:
AN ORDINANCE CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF ISSUING BONDS UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF AMENDMENT NO. 49 TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS FOR THE PURPOSE OF SECURING AND DEVELOPING INDUSTRY WITHIN OR NEAR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS (THE PARTICULAR PROJECT IS DESCRIBED IN THE ORDINANCE); PRESCRIBING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
Mr. Knight made the motion seconded by Mr. Pierce that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on the second reading. On calling the roll, all members present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be placed on the third and final reading. Roll was called. All members present voted aye and the motion was carried. Mr. Knight then moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the ordinance be adopted. All present voted aye and the motion carried. Mr. Knight moved with Mr. Pierce seconding the motion that the emergency clause be adopted. All present voted aye and the motion was carried. The ordinance was given the number 1199.
There being no further business, Council voted unanimously to adjourn.
