AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING STOP SIGNS AT CERTAIN STREET INTERSECTIONS WITHIN THE CITY OF JONEBORO: PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFORE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: The City Council hereby finds and declares that the condition of traffic is such as to endanger the traveling public at the intersections of the following streets and avenues, and that stop signs be and are hereby established and placed at the following designated points:

 

(1)  A stop sign on the west side of Kays Street, 10 feet north of the north line of Aggie Road;

(2)  Stop sign on the south side of Oak Avenue 10 feet west of the west line of Patrick Street ;

(3)  A stop sign on the west side of Patrick Street 10 feet north of the north line of Oak Avenue;

(4)  Stop sign on the east side of Vine Street 10 feet south of the south line of Warner Avenue;

(5)  Stop sign on the west side of Vine Street, 10 feet north of the south line of Creath Avenue;

(6)  Stop sign on the east side of East Street, 10 feet south of the south line of Creath Avenue;

(7)  Stop sign on the west side of East Street, 10 feet north of the north line of Creath Avenue;

(8)  Stop sign on the east side of Culberhouse, 10 feet south of the south line of Burke Avenue;

(9)  Stop sign on the west side of Culberhouse, 10 feet north of the north line of Burke Avenue;

(10)  Stop sign on the south side of Burke Avenue, 10 feet east of the east line of Culberhouse;

(11)  Stop sign on the south side of Burke Avenue, 10 feet west of the west line of Culberhouse;

(A) Stop sign on the east side of Vine Street, 10 feet south of the south line of Oak Avenue;

(B) Stop sign on the west side of Vine Street, 10 feet north of the north line of Oak Avenue;

(12)  Stop sign on the east side of East Street, 10 feet south of the south line of Monroe Avenue;

(13)  Stop sign on the west side of East Street, 10 feet north of the north line of Monroe Avenue;

(14)  Stop sign on the west side of East Street, 10 feet north of the north line of Washington Avenue;

(15)  Stop sign on the north side of Strawn Avenue, 10 feet east of the east line of Flint Street;

(16)  Stop sign on the south side of Strawn Avenue, 10 feet west of the west line of Flint Street;

(17)  Stop sign on the east side of Miller Street, 10 feet south of the south line of Word Avenue;

(18)  Stop sign on the east side of Bridge Street, 10 feet south of the south line of Hoover Street;

(19)  Stop sign on the north side of Hoover Street, 10 feet east of the east line of Bridge Street.

 

SECTION 2: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place the stop signs herein established at all points above described.

 

SECTION 3: All persons operating vehicles on streets or avenues shall bring such vehicles to a complete stop at a distance not less than 10 feet from said intersection so marked by stop signs nor more than 25 feet from said intersection.

 

SECTION 4: Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not less than $5.00 or more than $15.00 for each offense.

 

SECTION 5: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and adoption.
