CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 17, 1983
The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, January 17, 1983, at 7:30 p.m. At that time, the oath of office was administered to Mr. Robin Nix by the City Clerk. Present were Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all aldermen except Mr. Hinson, Mr. Bridger and Mr. Hannah.
The minutes of January 3, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all voted aye.
Mr. Park nominated Herbert Sanderson as Vice-Mayor for 1983, seconded by Mr. Stricklin. All voted aye.
Mr. Stricklin made the following resolution:
RESOLUTION TO NAME JUDGES, CLERKS AND ALTERNATE WORKERS TO SERVE IN THE CITY WATER AND LIGHT PLANT ELECTION FOR 1983
The polling place for each election is hereby designated as Parks and Recreation Depart. (Community Center Building 1212 South Church). Mr. Sanderson moved for the adoption of the resolution, seconded by Mr. Mays. All voted aye. The resolution was given the number 1983:03.
Mr. Park offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING A PART OF THE SE1/4 OF THE SECTION 36, TOWNSHIP 14 NORTH, RANGE 3 EAST, TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, AR.
Mr. Mays offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON CERTAIN STREETS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Shelton offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Mr. Park offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Mr. Park moved the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, seconded by Mr. Sanderson, all voted aye.
Mr. Stricklin moved that the City solicit bids on an automobile to be used by the Fire Chief. After a discussion on the options wanted on the auto, all voted aye except: Mr. Blevins, Mr. Province. Motion carried.
Mr. Province offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Mr. Sanderson moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, seconded by Mr. Province. All voted aye.
After a discussion on the structure located at Main & Johnson, owned by Mr. Dalton Farmer, it was decided that the City needs to have an appraisal made of damages run on the property.
Mr. Gary Tate, a Jonesboro land owner, approached the council with the discussion that he obtained some property that later was declared in the floodway. He asked the council for advice as to what he could do, and - or how he could develop said property. After discussion, City Attorney, Judy Hinson was asked to do research on the matter and get back with the council on the legality of the problem.
There being no further business, council adjourned.
