The City Council of the City of Jonesboro met in regular session on the above named date in the City Hall. There were present: Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and the following named Councilmen: Berry, Booker, Stricklin, Snow, Stephens, Copeland, Hendrix, Rogers, Johnson and Taylor.

 

Mr. Berry offered the following resolution:

 

A RESOLUTION TO ABANDON AND CLOSE AN ALLEY IN MONTAGUE’S SUBDIVISION OF BLOCK 42 OF KNIGHT’S SECOND ADDITION AND IN CULBERHOUSE’S SUBDIVISION OF BLOCK 43 OF KNIGHT’S SECOND ADDITION TO THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

 

Mr. Berry made the motion, seconded by Mr. Booker, that the resolution be adopted as read. Roll called. All aye. The resolution was given the number 1954:07.

 

Mr. Booker made the motion, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, that the Church of God in Christ be granted permission to solicit for funds for the church during the month of April. All aye.

 

Mr. Booker made the motion, seconded by Mr. Johnson, that Harold Rees be granted a permit to construct a building on the corner of Oak and Gee. Roll called. All aye. Permit granted.

 

Mr. Hendrix made the motion that the permit for the farm machinery be turned over to the Building Committee with power to act. Mr. Rogers seconded the motion. Roll called. All aye.

 

Mr. Booker made the motion, seconded by Mr. Stephens, that the permit for Buleauh Mae Hannah to operate a beauty shop be granted. Roll called. All aye.

 

Mr. Johnson made the motion, seconded by Mr. Rogers, that the Council take the granting or denying of a permit for a service station on the corner of Nettleton and Main under advisement. Roll called. Six aye, four no. Motion carried.

 

Mr. Stricklin offered the following resolution:

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF JONESBORO THAT THE NAME OF STRAWN AND CHESTNUT STREETS BE CHANGED AND HEREAFTER KNOWN AS WILMAR CIRCLE RUNS WESTERLY FROM VINE STREET PARALLEL WITH NETTLETON CIRCLE AND CHERRY STREET

 

Mr. Booker made the motion, seconded by Mr. Johnson, that the resolution be adopted as read. Roll called. All aye. The resolution was given the number 1954:06.

 

Mr. Berry made the motion that the Council give a vote of appreciation to the Insurance Committee for their good work. Mr. Booker seconded the motion. All aye.

 

Mr. Hendrix made the motion that group insurance for the employees be discussed at the same time other insurance plans will be discussed. Mr. Berry seconded the motion. All aye.

 

Mr. Berry made the motion, seconded by Mr. Booker, that the City try the Traf-O-Teras for a month and if satisfactory to install them permanently. Roll called. All aye.

 

Mr. Booker made the motion, seconded by Mr. Berry, that the permit of R.L. Berry’s to build a service station on the corner of Main and Nettleton, taken under advisement earlier in the meeting, be rejected. Roll called. Seven voting aye. Three passing. Motion carried. Permit rejected.

 

Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Berry, that the bills as okayed by the Finance Committee be paid. Roll called. All aye.

 

Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Stephens, that the Mayor be authorized to see about transportation of Firemen to school in Marked Tree. Roll called. All aye.

 

Mr. Snow made the motion, seconded by Mr. Hendrix, that Council adjourn. Roll called. All aye. Council adjourned.
