CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - January 6, 2006

 

The Jonesboro City Council met Friday, January 6, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. for a special called meeting. Members present were: Mayor Doug Formon, City Clerk, Donna K. Jackson, and eleven council members. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Williams, Perrin, Street, Johnson, Dover, Furr, McCall and Ashley. Councilman Moore was unable to attend.

 

Discussion was held regarding the fire trucks the Fire Department would like to purchase. It was explained the trucks would cost $1.22 million, but two trucks will be traded in and that will bring the total down to $1.121 million. It was added the trucks come with a full warranty. The trucks will be cleaned up and brought back to the City. It was also explained a purchase order would be made, but the money would not be spent right away. Fire Chief Aaron Keller stated one of the trucks will give the City more ISO rating points and it was an emergency due to non-operable fire trucks.

 

Councilman Perrin offered the following ordinance for first reading:

 

ORDINANCE TO WAIVE COMPETITIVE BIDDING AND AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF TWO USED FIRE TRUCKS FOR THE JONESBORO FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

Councilman Farmer moved, seconded by Councilman Perrin to suspend the rules and put the ordinance on third reading by title only. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Williams, Perrin, Street, Johnson, Dover, Furr, McCall and Ashley. Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilwoman Furr to adopt the ordinance. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Williams, Perrin, Street, Johnson, Dover, Furr, McCall and Ashley. Councilman Street moved, seconded by Councilman Farmer, to adopt the emergency clause. A roll call vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Williams, Perrin, Street, Johnson, Dover, Furr, McCall and Ashley. The ordinance was given ordinance number 3606.

 

It was questioned whether anyone has looked at the drainage problem at Fire Station #2. It was explained the process is being started and samples were taken of the mold. Mayor Formon was asked to keep council members informed prior to taking any action.

 

With no further business, Councilman Farmer moved, seconded by Councilman Perrin to adjourn the meeting. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Farmer, Province, Hargis, Moore, Williams, Perrin, Street, Johnson, Dover, Furr, McCall and Ashley.
