CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JULY 21, 1980
The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. Present, Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, and the following named aldermen: Park, Sanderson, Hinson, Shelton, Bridger, Hannah, Stricklin, Mays and Haggenmacher. Absent, Minx and Haigler.
The minutes of July 7, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Hannah.
The following ordinance was on 2nd reading:
AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF SIDNEY STREET AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Mr. Hannah moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on third and final reading, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, all aye. After the reading of the ordinance, Mr. Hannah moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Sanderson, all aye and the ordinance was assigned #1725.
The following ordinance was on 2nd reading:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE PLUMBING CODE FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
Mr. Hinson moved that the ordinance be amended in Section 1 to read - from the existing stub-out. Motion seconded by Mr. Park, all aye.
Mr. Stricklin offered the following ordinance:
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
On motion by Mr. Stricklin, seconded by Mr. Park, the rules were suspended and the ordinance placed on 2nd reading.
The following ordinance was on 2nd reading
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
On motion by Mr. Park, seconded by Mr. Hannah and unanimous vote of council, a public hearing was set for August 4, at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of closing a portion of School Street.
Mr. Hannah moved that the Mayor be given authority to advertise for bids on removing the canopy from the International Harvester Building, accept the low bid and award contract. Expenses are to be paid from the Parking Meter Funds. Motion seconded by Mr. Hinson and all present voting aye.
The Mayor was given authority to advertise for bids on demolition of building owned by Bill Lacy on North Main, to accept the low bid and award contract, on motion by Mr. Hannah, seconded by Mr. Park and all council voting aye.
Mr. Stricklin offered the following resolution:
RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THANKS TO DON TAYLOR OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The resolution was given the number 1980:08.
The purchasing agent reported to council the proceeds from the City Auction was $13,265.25.
Mr. Bridger moved that formal bidding procedures be waived and the City be authorized to accept telephone bid’s for reinforced steel for building box culverts on Neeley Road. Motion seconded by Mr. Hinson, all aye.
Mr. Stricklin moved that the City be authorized to advertise for bids on a chassis for one of the city-owned ambulances and the Finance Committee to locate funds for same. Motion seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye.
On motion by Mr. Province, seconded by Mr. Hannah, permission was granted for advertising for bid’s on a pickup truck to be used with mosquito fogger.
There being no further business, council adjourned.
