CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JUNE 6, 1983

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, June 6, 1983, at 7:30 p.m. Present were Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk and all aldermen except Mr. Nix who was absent.

 

The minutes of May 16, 1983, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Park, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye.

 

The following bids were on review:

 

A) Cythion (Malathion) - Mosquito Control - Mr. Park moved accept low bid from Holiman Equipment Company seconded by Dr. Smith. All aye. Motion carried.

 

B) Pick-up truck - Mosquito Control - Mr. Mays moved to accept the bid from Central Chevrolet seconded by Dr. Smith. All voted aye.

 

C) Surplus Property - Mr. Shelton moved, seconded by Mr. Park to reject all bids on the John Deere Riding Mower. All voted aye.

 

Mr. Hannah moved, seconded by Mr. Shelton to accept high bids on all Property. All aye.

 

Mr. Park offered the following ordinance: (R-1 to C-3)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Sanderson offered the following ordinance: (Black Bird Control)

 

AN ORDINANCE LEVYING A SANITATION TAX FOR BIRD CONTROL; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY FOR ITS VIOLATION; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Hannah moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, seconded by Mr. Mays. All voted aye.

 

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading: (Indian Plains)

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ABANDONMENT OF REAL ESTATE SHOWN TO BE STREETS AND PUBLIC AREAS ON THE PLAT OF INDIAN PLAINS MOBILE HOME PARK IN THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS WITHIN THE LIMITS HEREINAFTER MORE FULLY DESCRIBED; PROVIDING FOR CONVEYANCE THEREOF TO METHODIST HOSPITAL OF JONESBORO, INCORPORATED; PROVIDING FOR THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE ABANDONMENT AND CONVEYANCE MADE HEREIN; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF PUBLICATION FEE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following ordinance was on 2nd reading: (Peddlers)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 13-10 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS KNOWN AS THE LICENSE AND PRIVILEGE TAX ORDINANCE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading: (Viking Add)

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE #954 KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A CHANGE IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

The ordinance was given the number 1833.

 

The street Committee made a recommendation regarding the placing of a sidewalk on Belt Street from North School to Patrick. The recommendation consisted of the city furnishing all labor if the land owners would furnish materials. Ms. Lorina Sharp explained that the neighborhood was unable to supply the materials. Mayor Stallings asked that the Jonesboro PTA be consulted to see if there was any way they could fund any of the project.

 

Mr. Mays moved, seconded by Mr. Stricklin to have a public hearing June 9th, 1983, concerning the 2nd year Small City’s Application. All voted aye.
