AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC; REGULATING THE PARKING OF VEHICLES UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND PORTIONS THEREOF WITHIN THE CITY OF JONESBORO; PROVIDING FOR STOP SIGNS AT CERTAIN STREET INTERSECTIONS; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

 

SECTION 1: From and after the passage and adoption of this ordinance no persons, firm or corporation shall park, stop or leave standing, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the direction of a policeman, any vehicle of any king whatsoever upon those portions of the streets and avenues within the City of Jonesboro as herein below set out, to wit:

 

(1)  No parking upon the West side of South Church Street between the intersection of Matthews Avenue and Jefferson Avenue between the hours of 2:30 P.M. and 3:30 P.M. on Mondays thru Fridays. At all other hours and days no person, firm or corporation shall park any vehicle upon said street for any period of time longer than 12 minutes.

(2)  No parking upon West Washington Avenue for a distance of 200 feet east of the intersection of Flint Street.

(3)  No parking upon West Washington for a distance of 200 feet West of Flint Street.

(4)  No parking upon either side of West Jefferson Avenue for a distance of 200 feet East of Flint Street.

(5)  No parking upon either side of West Jefferson Avenue from the intersection of Flint Street to the intersection of McClure Street.

(6)  No parking upon either side of Kitchen Street between the intersection of Matthews Avenue and Eason.

(7)  No parking upon East Monroe Avenue between the intersection of East Street and Carson Street.

(8)  No parking upon Carson Street between the intersection of Washington Avenue and Creath Avenue.

(9)  No parking upon either side of Creath Avenue from Church Street to Fisher Street.

(10)  No parking upon either side of Fisher Street from Creath Avenue to Aggie Road.

(11)  No parking on the East side of Madison Street for a distance of 15 feet North and South of the driveway of Barton Lumber Company located North of Huntington Avenue.

(12)  No parking on the West side of Baker Street from the intersection of Washington Avenue to Creath Avenue.

(13)  No parking upon the South side of East Matthews Avenue for a distance of 66 feet where Carson Street intersects with East Matthews.

(14)  No parking upon either side of Patrick Street from the intersection of Matthews Avenue to Creath Avenue.

(15)  No parking upon either side of Matthews Avenue from the intersection of Church Street to the intersection of McClure Street.

(16)  No parking upon the South side of Cherry Avenue from the intersection of Main Street to Church Street.

(17)  No parking upon either side of East Street from the intersection of Washington Avenue to Monroe Avenue.

(18)  No parking upon either side of Huntington Avenue from the intersection of Sharp Street to Culberhouse Street.

 

SECTION 2: Stop signs be and are hereby placed and established at the herein below designated points, and it shall be unlawful to drive any vehicle into the intersections of said described streets without first bringing such vehicle to a full and complete stop:

                     

(1)  A stop sign on the North side of Oak Avenue, 10 feet east of the East line of Union Street.

(2)  A stop sign on the South side of Oak Avenue, 10 feet west of the West line of Union Street.

(3)  A stop sign on the East side of Union Street, 10 feet south of the South line of Oak Avenue.

(4)  A stop sign of the west side of Union Street, 10 feet north of the North line of Oak Avenue.

(5)  A stop sign on the east side of Floyd Street, 10 feet south of the South line of Washington Avenue.

(6)  A stop sign on the west side of Floyd Street,, 10feet north of the North line of Washington Avenue.

(7)  Remove stop signs at the intersection of Floyd Street and Washington Street stopping traffic on Washington

(8)  A stop sign on the East side of Floyd Street, 10 feet south of the South line of Jefferson Avenue.

(9)  A stop sign on the west side of Floyd Street, 10 feet north of the North line of Jefferson Avenue.

(10)  Remove stop sign at the intersection of Floyd and Jefferson Street, stopping traffic on Jefferson Street.

(11)  A stop sign on the North side of Strawn Avenue, 10 feet east of the East line of Culberhouse Street.

(12)  A stop sign on the south side of Strawn Avenue, 10 feet west of the West line of Culberhouse Street;

 

SECTION 3: The Chief of Police or some person designated by him is hereby directed to place and locate appropriate signs at the place herein provided for, and it shall be unlawful for any person to tear down or remove or mutilate said signs.

 

SECTION 4: PENALTY. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon convection thereof shall be fined in any sum not more than $25.00, and each day said violation is allowed to remain shall constitute a separate offense.

 

SECTION 5: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and adoption.
