AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 5-8 AND 5-9, AS AMENDED, THE SAME DEALING WITH ADOPTION OF THE BUILDING CODE FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas:
Section 1: That Section 5-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas is hereby amended to read as follows:
There is hereby adopted by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the purpose of establishing rules and regulations for the construction, operation, removal, demolition of equipment used in occupancy, location, maintenance of buildings, structures, including permits and penalties that certain building code known as the Standard Building Code, being particularly the 1979 edition, of which not less than three copies have been and now are filed in the Office of the City Inspector of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully set out herein and from the date of which this article shall effect, provisions thereof shall be controlled in the construction of all buildings and structures herein contained within the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Section 2: That Section 5-9 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas is hereby amended to read as follows: Appendix A through L of the Southern Building Code, 1979 edition, is specifically excluded and is not adopted by this article.
Section 3: There is excluded from the Standard Building Code, the 1979 edition, Section 111, 112, 113 and these sections of the Standard Building Code, 1979 edition, shall have no force and effect within the corporate limits of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Section 4: It is found and declared by the City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, that the above sections need to be amended to adopt the most recent edition of the Standard Building Code and therefore, this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
