A RESOLUTION ADOPTING AND ACCEPTING THE FINDINGS OF THE JONESBORO SOUTHWEST TRANSPORTATION STUDY

WHEREAS, public participation was offered during the study in which Public Meetings were held in March, 2004, at the outset of the project and in April, 2006, with a citizen input period between May and June of 2006; and

 

WHEREAS,  the said Southwest Transportation Study was reviewed in public hearing by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission on November 14, 2006 and passed unanimously by a 5-0 vote to recommended to the City Council for approval; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council held public hearing on said Southwest Transportation Study on December 19, 2006, and considered the findings of the executive summary which recommends a number of Short Term and Long Term Improvements.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council for the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas that:

 

SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, hereby adopts and accepts the Southwest Jonesboro Transportation Study as submitted by Associated Engineering & Testing, LLC; Carter Burgess; and Peters & Associates consulting firms.

 

SECTION 2: The Jonesboro Southwest Study area being bound by Nettleton Avenue on the north, Stadium Boulevard on the east, Lawson Road/Southwest Drive on the south and Woodsprings Road/Keller’s Chapel Road on the west.

 

SECTION 3:  This Resolution accepts the findings of the Jonesboro Southwest Study only.  Reference was made to “Appendix N” for public input purposes only  concerning the Sloan Plan encompassing Western Jonesboro and in no form does this resolution accepts or adopts its findings.   The Sloan Plan lies outside the limits of the Southwest Transportation Study and the merits of incorporating this plan into the City’s Master Street Plan will need to be determined in future thoroughfare studies.

 

SECTION 4:  This Resolution adopts and accepts the Southwest Jonesboro Transportation Study including but not limited to the following purposes:  to serve as a resource for future land use and comprehensive plan reviews, to guide future thoroughfare planning, and to be used for the future planning of capital improvements within the City.
