March 10, 1955

The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in regular session on March 10, 1955, at 1:15 P.M., in the Chamber of Commerce Office.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Al Hendrix, Elmer Stuck, Mrs. Clifford Hill, Lloyd Rebsamen, Charles Frierson, Neal Thayer, and Richard Forbes.
OTHERS PRESENT: Eric Lane of the University of Arkansas Planning Division.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jesse Banks, Minor Markle, and Dean Ellis.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Charles Frierson and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Chairman Frierson discussed a proposal by the University Planning Division for the preparation of 200 foot to the inch scaled maps of Jonesboro, showing lots, lots numbers, blocks and subdivision. It was brought out that certain private interests in the city need such maps and that an attempt would be made for joint financing of the maps, which can be used at a later date by the Planning Commission.
A lengthy discussion followed, led by Mr. Forbes, of the problems, solutions, procedures of work and schedules of commission and committee activities leading to the preparation of a major street plan and subdivision regulations. Copies of work outlines submitted by Mr. Forbes are made a part of the minutes.
The chairman appointed two committees of the City Planning Commission as follows:
Street Committee:
Al Hendrix, Mrs. Clifford Hill, Lloyd Rebsamen, and Jesse Banks.
Sub-Division Regulations Committee:
Minor Markle, Elmer Stuck, Dean Ellis, and Neal Thayer.
The chairman requested Al Hendrix to consult with the mayor and city attorney and see if a digest of all existing City of Jonesboro laws and ordinances governing streets and subdivisions could be prepared.
It was agreed that Mr. Forbes and his associates would appear at the next regular Planning Commission Meeting, which would be Thursday, April 14th, 1955.
Mr. Forbes stated that a Mr. Don White, who is a regional planner with the FHA, would speak to planning commissions upon official invitations. Mr. Forbes stated he would forward, to the secretary of the Commission, the addresses and necessary procedures in issuing such an invitation. The secretary was instructed to invite Mr. White to appear when convenient.
Meeting adjourned.
