PUBLIC HEARING - 6:15 P.M- A public hearing was conducted regarding the vacating and abandonment of a seven and one half foot utility easement located in Lot 1 in Block D of Gregory Subdivision Phase I, as requested by Mr. Dennis Gregory. No opposition was voiced.

 

CITY COUNCIL MINUTES - June 3, 2002

 

The Jonesboro City Council met Monday, June 3, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. A full quorum was in attendance. Present were: Mayor Hubert Brodell, City Attorney, Phillip Crego, City Clerk, Donna K. Jackson, and eleven council members. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. Councilman Tate was unable to attend.

 

Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilman Moore to approve the minutes of May 20, 2002, as previously delivered. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy.

 

Councilman Perrin offered the following ordinance for first reading:

 

ORDIANCE TO VACATE AND ABANDON AN UNIMPROVED SEVEN AND ONE HALF FOOT UTILITY EASEMENT (Dennis Gregory)

 

Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilman Moore to suspend the rules and place on second reading. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. Councilman Moore moved, seconded by Councilman Roddy to further suspend the rules and place on third and final reading. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. Councilman Perrin moved, seconded by Councilman Moore for the adoption of the ordinance. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. Councilman Copeland moved, seconded by Councilman Rega for the adoption of the emergency clause. A roll call vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Tate, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. The ordinance was assigned ordinance number 3363.

 

Councilman Rega moved, seconded by Councilman Moore for the adoption of a resolution directing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute contracts and agreements for the following Mata rights-of-way:

 

•Kenneth and Stacy Adams, 809 West Nettleton Ave, Parcel 44.

•William S. Aycock, 726 West Nettleton, Parcel Number 29.

 

A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. The resolution was assigned resolution number 2002:24.

 

Councilman Kelton moved, seconded by Councilman Perrin for the adoption of a resolution requesting City Water and Light to provide free utility service to 832 E. Hope Ave. for Hope Street Park. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy. The resolution was assigned resolution number 2002:25.

 

Councilman Young moved, seconded by Councilman Copeland approving the reappointment of Mr. Wallace Fowler to the Jonesboro Municipal Airport Commission with an expiration date of April 2007. A voice vote was taken resulting in all members voting aye. Those members were: Kelton, Rorex, Crockett, McCall, Rega, Province, Moore, Young, Perrin, Copeland and Roddy.

 

Under new business, City Attorney for North Little Rock, Mr. Paul Suskie addressed the Jonesboro City Council regarding Support Abatement Fines Enforcement (SAFE) and drug abatement. Attorney Suskie provided a brief overview of the advantages of the program and the success North Little Rock has experienced. The program offers a collaborative effort between the Police Department, Inspections, and the court system to solve public nuisance problems. Attorney Suskie encouraged council members to attend the seminar being offered the following day at St. Bernard’s Auditorium.
