A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT THE MULTI-JURISICTION NATURAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN, CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, BY THE CITY OF JONESBORO

Body

WHEREAS, certain areas of Craighead County, Arkansas are subject to periodic flooding and other natural and man-caused hazards with the potential to cause damages to people’s properties within the area; and

 

WHEREAS, Craighead County and the Plan Participants desire to prepare and mitigate for such circumstances; and

 

WHEREAS, under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the United States Congress required that local jurisdictions have in place a Federal Emergency Management Agency-approved Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan as a condition of receipt of certain future Federal mitigation funding after November 1, 2004; and

 

WHEREAS, to assist local jurisdictions in meeting this requirement, Craighead County, with the assistance of a private contractor, Geofemme, initiated development of the Multi-Jurisdiction Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, Craighead County, Arkansas; covering unincorporated Craighead County, ten incorporated areas, and twelve school districts;

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF JONESBORO, ARKANSAS THAT:

 

Section 1: That Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas hereby adopts those portions of the Plan entitled Multi-Jurisdiction Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, Craighead County, Arkansas:  Protection Jonesboro, Craighead County against all hazards, 2007 - 2012 that pertain to Jonesboro, Craighead County; and

 

Section 2: Appoints the County Office of Emergency Management coordinator to assure that the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan be reviewed at least annually and that any needed adjustment to Craighead County’s addendum to the Hazard Mitigation Plan be developed and presented to this Council for consideration; and agrees to take such other official action as may be reasonably necessary to carry out the objectives of the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.
