Metropolitan Area Planning Commission Minutes
December 30, 1955
body
The City Planning Commission of Jonesboro, Arkansas, met in called session on December 30, 1955, at 7:00 P.M., in the City Water and Light Plant Office.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Planning Commissioners Jesse Banks, Charles Frierson, Mrs. Clifford Hill, Lloyd Rebsamen, Elmer Stuck, and Neal Thayer.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Planning Commissioners Dean Ellis, A.L. Hendrix, and Minor Markle.
Chairman Frierson stated that this meeting was called at the request of Dr. R. C. Shanlever to consider Hillcrest Subdivision, as proposed to be platted and recorded by Dr. Shanlever.
After study of the plans and specifications, as submitted by Dr. Shanlever, and considerable discussion, the Commission recommends revisions, as follows:
A. That the street name “Choctaw Drive” be not used in this subdivision, since a street in Indian Village, a subdivision near Arkansas State College already uses this name.
B. That a strip of land 30’ wide on the northerly side of Lot 1 and on the southerly side of Lot 3, of Hillcrest Subdivision, be either dedicated to public use or assured of future use as one half of public street by suitable agreement between Dr. Shanlever and the City of Jonesboro.
C. That Dr. Shanlever be urged to attempt negotiations with adjoining property on the south, so that any street built either now or in the future would be located with its center line directly on the southerly line of the subdivision.
D. It is recommended that Dr. Shanlever negotiate with the adjoining property on the north, so that the northerly street can be located with its center line directly on the northerly line of the subdivision.
The recommendations for the location of the streets discussed above are made so that streets will be in line with existing streets, or the most logical and practical location for future developed streets.
The Commission discussed a proposed map of a suggested area in the City of Jonesboro to be zoned as an industrial district. There was approval of the area discussed and Chairman Frierson agreed to draft a proposed ordinance following the lines of the map for submission to the Jonesboro City Council.
Meeting adjourned.
