CITY COUNCIL MINUTES, JANUARY 19, 1981

 

The Jonesboro City Council met in regular session, Monday, January 19, at 7:30 P.M. Present, Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney and Aldermen Park, Stricklin, Shelton, Bridger, Minx, Hannah Haigler, Sanderson Province, and Mays. Absent: Hinson and Haggenmacher.

 

The minutes of January 5, 1981, were approved as mailed on motion by Mr. Park, second by Mr. Shelton.

 

Mr. Sanderson offered the following resolution:

 

RESOLUTION NAMING CLERK AND JUDGES FOR CW&L ELECTION

 

Mr. Sanderson moved for adoption of same, seconded by Mr. Hannah, all aye. The resolution was given the number 1981:01.

 

The following ordinance was on 3rd reading:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Sanderson moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, seconded by Mr. Park, all aye and the ordinance was assigned #1751.

 

On motion by Mr. Stricklin, second by Mr. Hannah and unanimous vote of council, the following ordinance was tabled for two weeks.

 

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO 954, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR CHANGES IN ZONING BOUNDARIES AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Minx moved that the ordinance regulating parking on Hester Street be withdrawn, seconded by Mr. Stricklin, all aye.

 

Mayor advised council that he had met with Judge Bearden concerning the agreement for maintenance of Loch Bee Post Office and Mr. Sanderson moved that the Mayor be authorized to sign same. Motion seconded by Mr. Stricklin, all aye.

 

Ms. Haigler offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Sanderson moved for suspension of the rules and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, seconded by Mr. Hannah, all aye. Mr. Hannah then moved for further suspension of the rules and placed the ordinance on 3rd reading.  Mr. Hannah then moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye and the ordinance was assigned #1752.

 

Ms. Haigler offered the following ordinances:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

 

Mr. Hannah moved the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, seconded by Mr. Shelton, all aye. Mr. Hannah then moved for further suspension of the rules and placed the ordinance on 3rd reading. Mr. Sanderson then moved for the adoption of the ordinance to include the emergency clause, seconded by Mr. Hannah, all aye and the ordinance was assigned #1753.

 

Mr. Shelton offered the following ordinance:

 

AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE CERTAIN TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF AND FOR OTHER PURPOSE

 

Mr. Mays moved the rules be suspended and the ordinance be placed on 2nd reading, second by Mr. Shelton, all aye. Ms. Haigler then moved that the ordinance be placed on 3rd reading, seconded by Mr. Sanderson, all aye.  Mr. Mays then moved for the adoption of the ordinance, seconded by Mr. Park, all aye. The ordinance was assigned #1754.

 

Mr. Stricklin moved, that the City be authorized to accept bids for a pickup truck for Humane Officer, seconded by Mr. Park, all aye.

 

There being no further business, council adjourned.
